ASX-listed gold explorer, Surefire Resources has kicked off a major follow-up drilling campaign at its exciting Yidby Road discovery in WA’s southern Murchison province. The latest RC program comprising up to 40 holes for around 6,000 metres comes after the company unveiled a clutch of spectacular, thick intersections from its maiden round of drilling. One stand-out prior drill hit was a whopping 56m intersection at an average grade of 1.97 grams per tonne gold from 44m including 4m at 14.47 g/t.
Other encouraging assay results from Surefire’s first RC campaign at Yidby Road were 40m going 3.01 g/t gold from 24m including 4m at 26.57 g/t and 36m at 1.51 g/t from 32m.
The 36m intersection contained a higher-grade 5m core averaging 5.86 g/t.
A 17m intercept grading 1.74 g/t from 51m included a 4m higher-grade core of 5.13 g/t, while another 16m intersection at 1.51 g/t from 50m included 4m at 4.18 g/t.
The new Yidby Road drilling program will focus on extending the gold mineralisation intersected by the prior drilling from an east-dipping, gold-bearing zone straddling the boundary between the sheared ultramafic and mafic rocks and a large felsic “porphyry” intrusion.
Surefire says the Yidby Road prospect has only been tested over a 150m strike length and to a shallow depth of less than 100m and remains open at depth and along strike to the north-west and south-east.
According to the Perth-based company, the interpretation of its detailed gravity survey suggests a 400m-wide north-west south-east-trending “mineralised” structural corridor that may stretch for five kilometres, with the Yidby Road prospect sitting roughly at the centre of it.
Surefire Resources Managing Director, Vladimir Nikolaenko said: “This major new drilling program at Yidby Road will allow Surefire to expand and define this significant new gold discovery.”
“In parallel with the current drilling, we will also be planning a program to test the regional-scale mineralised corridor identified in geophysical imagery that may extend for up to 5km within the Surefire tenements.”
The Yidby Road project tenure, which takes in the Yidby Road prospect and spans approximately 113 square kilometres within the southern portion of the Yalgoo-Singleton greenstone belt, is surrounded by several significant gold projects including Minjar, Kirkalocka, Mount Gibson and Rothsay, all within 70km of Yidby Road.
