Explorer Strickland Metals has uncovered a new significant oxide mineralisation zone with an initial pass of RC drilling at the company’s Millrose gold project 80km north-east of Wiluna in WA. Results from the drilling extend mineralisation 350m north of Millrose’s existing gold mineral resource of 346,000 ounces.
Peak assay values were encountered up to 200m north of the resource including a 37m hit running 1.6 grams per tonne gold from 58m, containing a higher-grade interval of 9m at 5.6 g/t gold from 86m.
A drill hole just 80m north of the resource yielded a 12m strike going 4.9 g/t from 64m including 4m at 13.6 g/t from 68m.
The new oxide gold discovery continues to grow north the mineralisation remains entirely open to the west.
The company plans to test for extensions to the north and west with further drilling.
Strickland will pass over its new zone of mineralisation again with a round of infill drilling as it looks to incorporate its latest find into an updated mineral resource slated for release in 2023.
The discovery comes from Strickland’s broader exploration efforts across Millrose as it looks to rapidly add gold ounces to its overarching 603,000-ounce Yandal gold project with Millrose as its centrepiece.
After tabling a resource upgrade the company will consider kicking off a scoping study into the development of the resource.
Other results from the latest round of exploration drilling include 3m at 14.8 g/t gold from 8m and 7m at 1 g/t from 4m.
These high-grade gold results were unearthed from directly above the resource and follow on from a string of significant oxide gold results released in April, June and July including 10m at 13 g/t gold from 66m and 2 at 10.9 g/t from 58m.
In terms of ongoing resource drilling, infill RC and diamond drill holes continue to confirm the high-grade nature of the primary mineralised area at Milrose’s northern segment Millrose North.
Peak results from the latest drilling at Millrose North include 28m at 2 g/t gold from 101m and 9.1m at 2.6 g/t from 178.8m.
In addition, assays are expected shortly from a trio of diamond holes testing an interpreted ore zone up to 90m down dip from the current mineral resource and beneath a hole yielding 8.1m at an impressive 14.6 g/t gold from 215m.
Both the infill and extensional work will be incorporated into the updated mineral resource.
Strickland Metals Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Bray said: “These excellent results continue to demonstrate the potential large scale of Millrose, with Strickland’s systematic exploration programs to date having significantly grown the mineralisation footprint.”
“There is an important, emerging story around the intersection of increasingly impressive shallow oxide gold results.”
“New lenses have also been discovered directly above Millrose.”
“None of these results are included in the current Mineral Resource model.”
The company now has two RC rigs systematically mapping the northern and southern extents of the project’s main 13km shear structure with lines of RC holes on 200m step-outs. The company expects to wrap up the program next month before wheeling the rig back to the project’s most promising areas for further follow-up drilling.
