Strickland Metals has been given the green light to explore the main structure of its Millrose gold project near Wiluna after receiving heritage clearance from the Tarlka Matuwa Piarku Aboriginal Corporation.
The company has also received program of work approval from the West Australian Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety.
Prior clearance gave the company permission to drill along a 3.2km portion of the deposit.
The latest approvals allow the company to focus on several areas along strike of the main 13km structure that Strickland says have become high-priority targets.
Strickland Metals Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Bray said: “These cross-cutting structures appear to be closely related to the higher-grade zones of gold mineralisation that have been intersected to date across the Millrose mineral resource.”
A third rig has been mobilised to the site, bringing the total exploration machinery to two RC rigs and one diamond drill that the company says will stay at the project until at least the end of the year.
Strickland says the third rig will greatly assist the testing of the undrilled structure.
The Millrose project forms part of Strickland’s broader Yandal gold project and is within the northern reaches of the region’s Archean-age Yandal greenstone belt.
The company picked up the Millrose project last year. It arrived with an indicated and inferred mineral resource estimate of 6Mt grading, an average 1.8 g/t for 346,000 ounces of contained gold.
Assay results from RC drilling released last week identified multiple new gold zones in addition to high-grade oxide gold intercepts at the project.
Highlights include one 5m intercept going 11.5 grams per tonne gold from 68m whilst a second 65m section from the same hole recorded 4.4 g/t from 95m including 3m at 20.2 g/t and another 3m reading an impressive 33.5 g/t gold.
The company says its latest assay result has extended mineralisation beneath the current mineral resource.
Millrose is about 30km east of Northern Star Resources’ 10-million-ounce-plus Jundee gold operation and adjoins the former Renegade Exploration tenement package that Strickland also picked up last year.
Last month Strickland Metals returned higher-than-expected assay results from recent diamond drilling at Millrose. Management argues the results demonstrate significant grades and widths that suggest the project is part of a very large gold system.
