Plans are moving ahead for residential development on two former education sites at the Kwinana Education Precinct and the Carine TAFE campus, Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said today.
Ms MacTiernan said preferred partners for each project had been selected following an expression of interest process. They are:
The Minister said LandCorp, the State Government's land development agency, would work in partnership with the developers and the community at each location to create residential developments that best met community aspirations.
"The idea for each site is for the creation of sustainable, pedestrian-friendly mixed use developments which offer real diversity of housing and make the best use of infill opportunities," she said.
"Each project offers ideal opportunities to develop community-focused housing, and the final design of the two sites will be determined incorporating the outcomes of community consultation."
At Kwinana, the 7.59ha development area is made up of two parcels of land in the east and west of the education precinct.
The proposed design includes a mixed residential and commercial development offering a range of dwellings including single residential lots, townhouses and apartments, with public art and walk trails recognizing the history of the precinct.
Redevelopment of the 7.92ha Carine TAFE site, will capitalise on the surrounding community facilities, including Hamersley and Lake Karrinyup golf clubs, local schools and parklands.
It provides a broad range of housing types from multi-storey apartments to detached housing and aged persons facilities. The project radiates from a commercial square with mixed commercial uses.
As part of the partnering program, LandCorp is also currently seeking expressions of interest for the redevelopment of the former Craigie High School site.
Submissions close at 2pm (WDST) on Tuesday, November 27.
