Squire ups Perth corporate practice

Global law firm Squire Patton Boggs has grown its Perth corporate practice division with the addition of Simon Rear, who is moving from Allion Legal.

Mr Rear is joined in the move by a team of lawyers including senior associate Chris Rosario, and associates Ben Stewart and Pasan Wijesuriya.

Mr Rear is experienced in corporated advisory, M&A and equity capital markets, focusing on the mining, resources, technology, insurance, financial, property and industrial sectors.

Mr Rear spent four years in London at Herbert Smith, including acting as an adviser to underwriters in a $15.2 billion rights issue by Rio Tinto, and as an adviser to Lonmin defending a $5.6 billion takeover by Xstrata.

Squire expanded to Perth in 2011, when it merged with Minter Ellison.
