THE speed of business today is not only changing work practices, but is also changing the way companies choose to look after their employees.
Businesses and individuals are taking more of an interest in their own health and well being.
One business seeking to capture a greater share of this market is Merribrook, a 65-hectare retreat near Margaret River.
The owners have just completed a $1 million refurbishment of the retreat to cater for the growing health and well being sector.
Until recently Merribrook offered fast-paced action adventure corporate and business programs.
Courses involve outdoor exercises such as bush walking, ropes courses and a flying fox, as well as indoor problem solving and relationship building activities.
But while these services are still available, guests can now also enjoy the pampering of a luxury spa retreat.
Merribrook founder Richard Firth said the refurbishments had been brought about by a change in client demand.
“Clients have consistently asked us for the opportunity to visit away from their workplace, and we have responded to that demand,” he said. “Current business lifestyles require ‘time out’ to recharge the batteries. Merribrook is now offering the ideal venue and facilities for this to happen.”
The refurbishment has included the creation of spa-inspired bathrooms in the rammed earth cottages, with views over the lake and native bush.
In addition, the lodge has undergone a facelift and there is a wood-fired sauna, spa, day bed and the 20-metre solar-heated swimming pool.
Mr Firth said while Merribrook was still very much a corporate training and development facility there was now the option of private visits.
