Almost seven months after Peter Flett resigned as Director General of Health, Kim Snowball has been announced as his permanent replacement.
Health Minister Kim Hames said Mr Snowball, who previously headed up the WA Country Health Service, has been appointed for five years.
Mr Flett quit in December last year after he was criticised by former Treasurer Troy Buswell for a blow out in the Department's budget.
Mr Snowball has been acting in the position since January.
The recruitment process for the role included an international search, begun in January and culminating in an independent selection process conducted by the Commissioner for Public Sector Standards.
"Mr Snowball has shown a commitment to providing the best possible health service to all West Australians, and his experience overseeing our regional health services gives him a deep understanding of the complexities of delivering health care in WA," said Mr Hames.
His previous appointments include five years with St John of God Healthcare and numerous senior executive positions in WA health services.
