Si6 Metals has intersected wide zones of gold mineralisation at the company’s Monument gold project in WA after a second phase air core drilling program. The broadly spaced 130-hole program encountered numerous intercepts grading more than 0.1 grams per tonne gold over an 8km-long regional north-west trending structure.
The drilling occurred earlier in the year across five of the project’s prospect areas comprising two felsic intrusions and three structural targets. Of the 130 holes, 49 tested a strike extent of 1200m at the project’s North Well prospect and delivered the campaign’s most encouraging set of 4m-samples.
The best results at North Well were an 8m hit going 0.98 g/t gold from 56m including a higher-grade interval of 4m at 1.84 g/t and a 9m hit that ended in mineralisation running 0.32 g/t gold from 52m. Si6’s drill efforts were building upon historical drilling in 2010 at the prospect that encountered 4m intervals grading up to 1.7 g/t from 76m.
Importantly, the recent holes confirmed the mineralisation is north-west trending and associated with the regionally significant Celia Tectonic Lineament. Mineralisation at the prospect remains open along strike to the north-west and south-east.
Notably, just outside the north-western extent of drilling at North Well, the explorer has collected rock chip samples from historical workings going as high as 22.3 grams per tonne gold. The south-east area exhibits similar potential for growth as the zone is covered by transported sediments with surface sampling only performed on less than 10 per cent of the prospective strike area.
As part of the broader program a 14-hole flurry was fired into the project’s Aermotor prospect 5.5km to the south-east and intersected an anomalous 4m at 0.12 g/t gold from 36m. The anomalous result was encountered 220m to the south-east of previous Si6 drilling that intersected 4m at 0.44 g/t gold from 36m.
Another 20 holes drilled at the Celia prospect in between North Well and Aermotor returned 4m at 0.29 g/t gold from 44m.
The encouraging finds at North Well and Aermotor prospects indicate to the explorer that significant potential remains across the broader project area for bulk-tonnage, intrusion-hosted and high-grade, vein hosted gold mineralisation.
Si6 Metals, Exploration Manager, Michael Jackson said: “North Well is emerging as a key target for Si6 with these results confirming the potential that was highlighted during historical drilling in this area. These results provide us with added confidence as we now look ahead to commencing the Phase Three aircore drilling program at MGP in October.”
With one eye on the horizon, Si6 is planning further infill and strike extension air core drilling at North Well and along the 8km strike of the project’s premier structural target. In addition, targets identified from the company’s soil sampling along with geochemical and geophysical analysis will also be tested as part of the upcoming and future drill campaigns.
With its standout 4m-samples now submitted to the laboratory in Kalgoorlie to be analysed in metre intervals, Si6’s other eye will be watching for the return of its new assays. The company expects the 1m-assays to validate the mineralised intercepts and identify individual samples containing the best gold mineralisation.
