Local businessman Bruce Reynolds has made a late entry into the City of Perth's lord mayoral race, becoming the seventh candidate to announce a bid for the job.
Crush managing director Bruce Reynolds has made a late entry into the City of Perth's lord mayoral race, becoming the seventh candidate to announce a bid for the job.
Mr Reynolds has been managing director of Crush, a full-service marketing and design agency, since 1996, and has also volunteered on the board and as chair of several not-for-profit entities.
He has experience in real estate and marketing, as well as being the owner of Northbridge cafe Braddock's Dispensary.
In a statement released this afternoon, Mr Reynolds said he would self-fund his campaign, and vowed to set aside $50,000 of his income if elected lord mayor to establishing a youth board to encourage future leadership in the city.
“I have been following the election campaign looking for someone whose ideals I could align with, someone who has the right mix of business and community experience, and someone who lives and works in the city," Mr Reynolds said.
"[T]hat just hasn’t happened, so I decided to put my hand up."
Mr Reynolds will concurrently run for a position on council.
His announcement comes just one day before the deadline to file for October's election and as the six previously announced candidates have already engaged in three public debates.
Several prominent candidates have declared council bids in recent days, including former councillor Reece Harley, who was suspended along with the City of Perth's seven other councillors and lord mayor in 2018.
Other candidates include former City of Joondalup deputy mayor Liam Gobbert, former City of Gosnells deputy mayor Terresa Lynes and former City of Melville deputy mayor Rebecca Gordon.
Mustang Bar managing director Michael Keiller and businesswoman Gloria Zhang, who had declared council bids and endorsed media personality Basil Zempilas' lord mayoral bid, were both deemed ineligible to run for council earlier this week because of the nature of their lease agreements.
Both candidates are now appealing that ruling.
Friends Restaurant owner Clyde Bevan and local television presenter Gary Mitchell, who have also endorsed Mr Zempilas' campaign, will appear on the October ballot.
Elections to the City of Perth's eight vacant council positions and lord mayoralty will be held on October 17.
