Sandalford Wines’ Peter Prendiville has been welcomed as the new chairman of Tourism Western Australia.
Tourism Minister Kim Hames announced today Mr Prendiville would take on the role of chairman when Kate Lamont’s term expires at the end of this month.
“Kate Lamont has been an outstanding chairman for the past six years and I thank her, on behalf of the State Government, for all her hard work and the exceptional leadership she has provided to the tourism industry in Western Australia,” Dr Hames said.
“I would also like to thank Trish Ridsdale, who is also leaving the board after five years’ service.”
Mr Prendiville has been deputy chairman of Tourism WA since September 2011.
Little Creatures Brewing founder Howard Cearns will take on the role of deputy chairman.
New appointees to the board include Discover Australia Holidays group managing director Nathan Harding, Wesfarmers director Diane Smith-Gander and Emirates’ Richard Vaughan.
Tourism Council WA chief executive Evan Hall said Mr Prendiville was an ideal choice to head up WA tourism.
“His involvement with the tourism industry spans more than 35 years and he will be able to adeptly represent the needs and concerns of the industry,” Mr Hall said.
