Emergency management and safety training company Risktec Australasia Pty Ltd is to further expand its international client base with the company opening a training office in Angola.
Risktec Australasia managing director, and 40under40 winner, Stuart Manifold told WA Business News the company would be looking to open the office in January next year.
“We are also looking to India where we are doing a fair bit of work for TMS India,” he said. “We are looking at also doing some consultancy work there as well.”
The company has provided training and development services to 10 countries and has training and simulation facilities in Perth, Jakarta, Baku (Azerbaijan) and most recently Singapore.
Mr Manifold said turnover for the company was up 120 per cent on the previous year with forecast growth of 70 per cent for the following year.
“Ninety per cent of the sales are from overseas markets,” he said. “This is actually down because we have done more work in Australia.
“We have really concentrated on offshore clients and we have considerable numbers of international personnel… and so Australia hasn’t had a lot of attention.”
Risktec has also been involved in key projects in Central Asia with companies including BP, providing emergency training and assessment of its production platforms.
However, while Risktec is looking to take on new projects in countries such as Angola, there has been less of an emphasis on the Middle East as a future project destination because of continuing security issues.
In March last year, the company opened its training facility in Singapore and has since completed a number of projects with drilling contractor, Transocean.
Risktec provides client-specific training to organisations, customised for each individual facility from its training facilities without impacting on a client’s operations.
The company’s clients also include global companies such as Premier Oil, ExxonMobil, BHP Billiton and Malaysia’s national petroleum corporation, Petronas.
Risktec employs 28 staff stationed throughout the company’s training and simulation facilities.
Last month, the company won the education export award at the WA industry and export awards and is one of 11 Western Australian companies to recently have been announced as finalists in the 2006 Australian export awards.
In announcing the finalists earlier this month, Trade Minister Warren Truss said the finalists from WA had helped generate export sales of more than $5.9 billion in the past financial year while collectively employing more than 5,400 staff.
The other WA finalists are: Craig Mostyn Group (agribusiness category); Divex Asia Pacific (emerging exporter); Commtech Wireless (information and communications technology); Australian Gold Reagents (large advanced manufacturer); Rio Tinto Iron Ore (minerals and energy); Albany Plantation Export Company (regional exporter); Genalysis Lab Services (services); Ayres Composite Panels (small to medium manufacturer); Wild Child (small to micro business); and North Star Cruises (sports, events and tourism).
The Australian exporter of the year award and export category award winners will be presented in Melbourne on November 30.
