A total of 27 companies will compete as finalists in the 2005 Western Australian Industry and Export Awards, to be held on Friday October 14.
The record number of entries follows the national success of three entrants for last year’s awards.
“Last year was an excellent year for entrants, which culminated in three Western Australian companies winning national export awards, namely Mt Romance, Hamersley Iron and Australian Gold Reagents,” Premier Geoff Gallop said.
He said the awards recognised the importance of exports to the development of the state.
Almost a third of WA’s gross state product is generated by exports, totalling $35 billion in 2004. Category winners automatically compete as finalists in the Australian Export Awards, which will be held in Sydney in December.
The 2005 finalists include: Risktec Australasia; Edith Cowan University; GEOS Perth; West Australian Ballet; North Star Cruises; WAMMCO International; Commtech Wireless; Bay Merchants; Neptune Marine Services; Lions Eye Institute; Neuromonics; VibraQ Corporation; Tyco Water; Mobilarm; and Palandri Wine Production.
