Over the past nine years, Mineral Resources has helped provide home-cooked meals for families staying with Ronald McDonald House Charities WA.
MinRes employs two chefs, Tommy and Zi, who prepare healthy, home-cooked dinners every night of the year for the families, and support RMHC WA’s Home for Dinner volunteering program.
The Home for Dinner program provides on average 50,000 homecooked meals to WA families who rely on RMHC WA’s essential service each year.
“At MinRes, we know the profound difference that a home-cooked meal can have, especially for families staying at Ronald McDonald House during challenging times,” MinRes Executive General Manager People Facilities and Logistics Bethanie Ibrahim said.
With MinRes’ support, RMHC WA is able to provide home-cooked meals every night of the year to families in need, helping them focus on being together and looking after their ill or injured child.
“When families are dealing with the emotional and physical toll of having a child in hospital or receiving medical treatment, they don’t need the added worry of grocery shopping or cooking,” Ms Ibrahim said.
“We hope that by providing a home-cooked meal it offers families comfort, stability and a sense of normality in a time of uncertainty.”
MinRes has been providing longstanding support of WA families with ill or injured children through RMHC WA, particularly those from the State’s regions.
“As a company with extensive operations across regional Western Australia, we understand the challenges faced by families in remote communities, particularly when they need to travel long distances for medical treatment. That’s why it’s important we support families in their time of need by ensuring they have a healthy and nourishing meal at the end of the day. It’s our way of giving back to the communities that support us,” Ms Ibrahim said.
“Being far from home when faced with a child’s medical crisis can put an immense strain on a family’s emotional and financial wellbeing. We hope that our support helps to alleviate some of the challenges that families may face. We hope this makes it a little easier for the families staying at the house, so they feel supported when they need it most.”
Last year, more than 165 corporate and community groups rolled up their sleeves and volunteered more than 990 hours in the kitchen under the guidance of MinRes’ chefs.
RMHC WA’s Home for Dinner volunteering program invites members of the community to help prepare, cook and serve the evening meal. “We encourage everyone to gather their friends, family or colleagues and join Tommy and Zi in the kitchen to help cook dinner – it’s such a rewarding experience,” Ms Ibrahim said.
The ongoing support from organisations such as MinRes enables RMHC WA to provide a nutritious evening meal every day for Western Australia families with sick children.
“At MinRes, we know the importance of a good meal because we’ve seen firsthand how it impacts the wellbeing of our own employees. Just as we prioritise the health and wellbeing of our workforce, we want to extend that care to families going through a difficult time. By taking one daily task off their plate, we hope to make a hard time a little bit easier,” Ms Ibrahim added.
