The state Labor Party has appointed John Quigley as Shadow Attorney General following Jim McGinty's resignation last week, and has welcomed John Hyde into its shadow cabinet ranks.
Mr Hyde will take responsibility for Culture and the Arts, previously under Ben Wyatt's jurisdiction, and Heritage and Multicultural Interests which was held by Paul Papalia.
Ken Travers will have the added responsibility of Electoral Affairs, a portfolio that was held by Mr McGinty.
Mr Travers also looks after the Transport and Sport and Recreation portfolios.
"Expanding Shadow Cabinet by one will provide Labor members with the opportunity to gain valuable experience as we prepare for the opportunity to return to Government," state Labor leader Eric Ripper said.
"John Quigley has a long history as a defence lawyer in this State and will bring a wealth of experience and skills to the position of Shadow Attorney General.
"He has been part of the Western Australia's legal fraternity for the past 34 years and I look forward to the contribution he will make to Shadow Cabinet and the direction of Labor policy into the future.
"John Hyde has been a strong advocate for multicultural interests and the arts in Perth.
"He will bring flair, energy and political experience to the position."
The appointments come as the party endorsed Peter Tagliaferri last night as its candidate for the seat of Fremantle, made vacant after Mr McGinty's resignation.
