Qantas has announced it will commence services between Perth and Geraldton in November, eight months after the route was deregulated by state government.
Flights will operate twice daily during the week and once daily on the weekend.
Until now, Skywest has been the sole carrier operating on the route and flights have typically been around $250, while Qantas has already caused a shake up with a $99 initial offer.
QantasLink also announced that it will introduce its Q400 aircraft on services between Exmouth and Perth twice a week on Monday and Wednesday.
“We are looking forward to introducing our Q400 aircraft on these key WA routes as part of Qantas’s significant investment in regionalAustralia. This follows our successful deployment and utilisation of this aircraft type across several destinations within Australia and Papua New Guinea,” QantasLink executive manager Narendra Kumar said.
“This service will provide the Geraldton community with unprecedented access to a range of Australian and international destinations by linking them to Qantas’s extensive network.”
City of Greater Geraldton deputy chair of commissioners Ian Carpenter said it is a great outcome, following the city's investment in airport infrastructure.
“It is a great outcome and reflects a lot of work done in upgrading the City owned airport and working on State and National regulators to get us in a position to see this new service come into play,” he said.
