QR National has announced a new rail haulage contract with Mineral Resources subsidiary Polaris Metals.
QR will deliver iron ore produced from the Carina mine in the Yilgarn region, near Southern Cross, to the Port of Kwinana, under a five-year deal.
The contract follow’s QR’s recent announcement it was examining the development of a multi-access iron ore railway in the Pilbara in collaboration with Atlas Iron.
“QR National is committed to growing its business with its customers and backing our capability with high performance,” executive vice president of business development and strategy, Ken Lewsey said.
“The signing of the contract also means we’re right on track with our plan to triple the size of our iron ore haulage business from about 10 million tonnes per annum in FY2011 to 30mtpa by 2014.
Mr Lewsey said the company had committed $350 million to expand its Western Australian operations.
