Primero wins Agrimin contract

Agrimin has awarded Primero Group the engineering design contract for the process plant component of its $545 million Mackay sulphate of potash project.

Agrimin said the engagement of Primero was on an early contractor involvement basis, with the initial stage awarded being the process plant design works.

Subject to a final investment decision, Primero will undertake both the engineering design, subsequent construction of the process plant and site based non-process infrastructure.

The numerical value of the contract was not disclosed.

Accordingly, Primero has now commenced the engineering design for the process plant, Argimin said.

The project is located approximately 785 kilometres south of Wyndham port near the Northern Territory border in sparse desert.

Mackay is expected to yield 426,000 tonnes per annum of SOP, with first production is slated for the final quarter of 2022.

The project covers around 5,000 square kilometres.
