The drill bit is now turning for PolarX in its 3000m RC drilling program into the highly-prospective gold-silver Star Canyon target within its Humboldt Range project in Nevada.
Ten holes are to be drilled at Star Canyon inside PolarX’s Black Canyon northern group of lode claims, followed by another flurry of 10 holes at the Fourth of July claims to the south.
The explorer says recently-completed infill soil sampling combined with channel sampling at Star Canyon, has produced more strong results, highlighting the potential for bulk-tonnage mineralisation.
According to PolarX, highly anomalous gold and silver values were found in 6 of 11 channel sample traverses. Importantly, the channels cover a cumulative length exceeding 275m perpendicular to the strike of altered and mineralised volcanic rocks, estimated to be more than 645m long.
Highlights from the channel samples include 54m grading 17.3 grams per tonne silver and 0.22 g/t gold, 72m running 11.7 g/t silver and 0.21 g/t gold and a lengthy 175m at 2.2 g/t silver and 0.13 g/t gold.
The company declares its results are consistently at, or above, the cut-off grades at the two proximal large-scale mines and adds further weight to the potential significance of its project.
Interestingly, the detailed channel samples were taken within a coherent gold-in-soil anomaly of greater than 50 parts per billion, measuring 645m by 500m. Importantly, the elevated mineralisation remains open and untested beneath a thin cover of soils to the north and south.
Notably, the anomaly of gold is contained within a broader envelope of greater than 30ppb gold, measuring 2300m by 900m.
The company says the area is now Black Canyon’s best-known target for large-tonnage and low to moderate grade gold-silver mineralisation.
The 10 holes will be drilled to an average depth of 150m, with completion expected in two weeks.
The rig will then move south to drill a further 10 holes at the Fourth of July claim block, testing multiple targets for gold-silver mineralisation.
PolarX’s Humboldt Range project is comprised of two blocks of lode claims separated by less than 6km within northwest Nevada. Interestingly the northern group Black Canyon sits less than 3km east of the 5-million-ounce Florida Canyon gold mining and heap leach operation run by TSX-listed American producer Argonaut has an annual production of approximately 77,000 ounces of gold.
Most notably, 30km south of the Fourth of July, American producer Coeur Mining operates the Rochester silver-gold. The sizeable operation produced a whopping 3.2 million ounces of silver and over 27,000 ounces of gold in 2020.
Finding itself in a well-mineralised postcode, PolarX will be eager to see how assays from its upcoming drill program stack up against its neighbours.
