BELMONT-BASED construction firm Pindan has responded to a spike in demand for transportable housing by creating a new transportable housing company, Formas Australia.
Formas director Scott Davison said the new company was focused on refining transportable housing solutions to suit the specific needs of the Australian market, while ensuring the homes remained affordable.
“There is a huge demand for this type of housing in today’s market, particularly in regional and remote areas where accommodation is urgently needed, and the Gorgon gas project is only going to further boost that need in WA’s north-west,” Mr Davison said.
Pindan has secured the national licence and patent rights for the New Zealand-designed products with the creation of the Formas brand.
“Along with the new branding, Formas have also created a new business structure to provide direct control throughout the entire process – from the design, material sourcing and manufacturing, to swiftly delivering consistent, high quality, affordable products,” Mr Davison said.
A key feature of the Formas products, which would give it an advantage in Western Australia’s north-west, was its sustainability and thermal efficiency, according to Mr Davison.
“It is possible to achieve up to a seven-star thermal efficiency rating, which is incredibly important in hot regional areas, with double glazed, thermally broken windows, and fully insulated walls, floors and roof systems, as well as wide verandas to provide necessary sunshade for the windows,” Mr Davison said.
Another advantage of the Formas products was the speed at which they could be delivered and erected, he said.
Once the building licence is approved, a home can be installed and completed, ready for occupation within weeks, compared to more than a year for a typical home.
“The versatility of the Formas range of accommodation solution is vast, from traditional two- or three-bedroom homes to an open-plan commercial office, in addition to mine-site housing and tourist park accommodation,” Mr Davison said.
He said the pre-finished homes were supplied complete with services and bamboo flooring and were ready for occupation within weeks of delivery.
