The chief executive officer of the Town of Port Hedland, Chris Adams has been appointed general manager of the new Pilbara Cities office.
He was previously chief executive officer for the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley.
The Pilbara cities office will be based in the Pilbara and commences operation from July 1.
Mr Adams will take up his appointment from August 9.
Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said he was delighted with the appointment.
"Chris has held key roles in the Pilbara and Kimberley regions for many years and his experience and understanding of these areas make him an ideal person for this important role," he said.
"As the head of the new Pilbara Cities office, Chris will lead and direct the management and strategic direction of the work being done to revitalise the Pilbara," he said.
"Pilbara Cities is a major initiative by the State Government to encourage more people to live and settle in the Pilbara and this Government will invest nearly $1billion through Royalties for Regions funding during the next four years to make it happen," said Mr Grylls.
