Perth Airport has maintained its third place ranking in the competition watchdog's annual airport monitoring report, which found the performance of Sydney's Kingsford Smith airport to be of most concern.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission today released its 2008-09 report that looks into the performance of airports in the country's capital cities, excluding Hobart and Darwin.
The report is compiled to determine whether airports are earning monopoly rents.
Of most concern regarding the Sydney airport was that while it recorded a 1.4 per cent dip in passenger numbers, its revenues and profits rose.
The airport recorded $446 million in revenue for 2008-09, up 5.4 per cent on the previous year, while the operating margin rose 7.8 per cent to $202 million.
Sydney also recorded the highest average price of $13.63 per passenger compared to the lowest of $7.96 at Melbourne.
Sydney was ranked last for the fourth consecutive year.
Passenger numbers at Perth Airport rose 6 per cent to 9.7 million in 2008-09, while revenue increased 7.9 per cent to $80 million.
The airport's operating margin was up 1 per cent to $33 million while revenue per passenger gained 1.7 per cent to $8.25.
