Pact secures new Subi school contract

PACT Construction has been awarded the forward and earthworks contract for the new $68 million Inner City College at Kitchener Park in Subiaco, while the state government has approved the Subiaco redevelopment scheme.

Under the $4.8 million contract, Pact, which started work today, will align the underground water pipes and services infrastructure.

The school is being designed by a joint venture of Bateman Architects and T&Z Architects, and will incorporate the existing football oval into its design.

The school will be built across different levels spanning three and four stories with modern specialist facilities along with a sports hall, gymnasium, lecture theatres and a library.

Major building work at the site is set to begin mid-year.

Meanwhile, Planning Minister Rita Saffioti today approved the Subiaco redevelopment scheme, thus handing planning responsibility to the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority.

The scheme entails future planning for development in the Subiaco area, including Subiaco Oval, the Princess Margaret Hospital site and the Subi East precinct.

Ms Saffioti said Subiaco Oval would be retained as a shared open space.

"The location of the new school presents new opportunities and has been designed specifically to enhance the character of its local community,” she said

"The exciting new Subi East renewal project will transform Subiaco Oval's surrounds and the Princess Margaret Hospital site into a vibrant place for living, learning and leisure.

"It is also connected to existing public transport connections, making it a prime location for new homes and businesses."
