New Water Corp board
Toro Energy executive general manager Vanessa Guthrie, HBF chairman Tony lanello, and Broad Group Holdings chairman Peter McMorrow have been appointed to the board of the Water Corporation. Current board member Karen Field has been appointed as deputy chair, following the retirement of Brian Hewitt. Board members Andrew Bantock and Robert Harvey have also retired. Water Corporation is the state government business that is the principal supplier of water, wastewater and drainage services in WA.
Harvey moves to EPA
Paul Vogel has been reappointed as chairman of the Environmental Protection Authority for a further three-year term, while Robert Harvey has joined the EPA board as deputy chairman. Professor Harvey was formerly the pro-vice-chancellor and executive dean of the Faculty of Business and Law at Edith Cowan University. He has just stepped down from the board of the Water Corporation, and has previously also worked for the Department of Justice. Professor Harvey replaces Christopher Whitaker on the EPA board. Dr Whitaker has served on the board since 2007 and was made deputy chairman in November 2009. The EPA is a five-member independent authority whose objective is to protect Western Australia’s environment, and prevent, control and abate pollution and environmental harm.
Newmont appoints new Asia Pac head
Gold giant Newmont Mining has appointed Carlos Santa Cruz to take over as senior vice-president of Asia Pacific following an announcement that incumbent and 30-year Newmont veteran Jeff Huspeni will retire in March next year. Dr Santa Cruz is currently Newmont’s senior vice-president of South American operations and has been with the company since 2001. Prior to that he was general manager of Minera Yanacocha, a joint venture mining operation in Northern Peru in which Newmont holds a 51.35 per cent interest. In the last week, Newmont has also downgraded its production outlook for the Boddington gold mine and deferred the expansion of its Tanami project, as it begins a global program of cost cutting.
Lock wins agribusiness award
Craig Mostyn Group chief executive officer David Lock has been named Agribusiness Leader of the Year at the NAB Agribusiness Awards for Excellence, organised by Monash University Gippsland. The awards were handed out at a gala dinner in Melbourne last Thursday in recognition of achievements across the agribusiness sector. Mr Lock has been CEO of Craig Mostyn Group, which operates state-of-the-art pork, seafood and other food product processing facilities in WA. since 2004. In this time, he has restructured the company's 18 business units down to three - Linley Valley Pork, Recycling and Craig Mostyn Foods, and increased the Group’s market share from 10 to 95 per cent.
