Mixed metals explorer Oar Resources has intersected high-grade gold and silver at its wholly owned Douglas Canyon project in Southern Nevada, USA after completing a maiden drilling campaign at the operation. The company says the probe was aimed at testing the ground’s precious metal potential by evaluating depth extensions of outcropping mineralisation.
According to Oar, the program proved successful in intersecting a high-grade structure that validated its belief the outcrop’s mineralisation stretched deeper than originally projected.
Some of the better results include a 1.8m intersection going 1.28 grams per tonne gold and 190 g/t silver from just shy of 112m.
The 1.8m strike housed a richer 0.7m component going 2.4 g/t gold and 361 g/t silver from 112.16m
Management says the results affirm its belief that the company has a high-quality gold and silver system at Douglas Canyon and will now integrate the new data with earlier information as part of a comprehensive review of the project.
Along with the detailed evaluation of the drill results, a systematic mapping and sampling program will be carried out along strike of the interpreted structures, that are known to extend into the recently acquired western extension area.
Historic bulk leach extractable gold or "BLEG" sampling across the new claim area has dispensed a length list of notable hits including 37.5 parts per billion gold and 117.9 parts per billion silver.
Oar deems the presence of silica flooded host rocks, thin quartz stringers and highly siliceous quartz breccias found in earlier as encouraging signs for the discovery of more gold at Douglas Canyon and is now eager to dive into more drilling after a promising start.
The Perth-based company has a lot of ground to cover in its revived precious metal quest after adding 2.59 square kilometres to its project area after acquiring a number of new claims that have increased the estimated strike length at Douglas Canyon to almost 2.5km.
Calls to drill test Douglas Canyon’s prospective ground were initially put on ice after adverse weather conditions and the festive season break.
The Douglas Canyon project is in the Walker Lane Gold-Silver District of southern Nevada that is recognised for its many volcanic-hosted epithermal gold and silver deposits.
There are eight major gold projects within a 50km radius of Douglas Canyon including USA-based producer Fortitude Gold's East Camp Douglas project where recent drilling yielded a 22.86m intercept going a healthy 13.55 g/t gold.
