National telecommunications company NewSat has won a $US8.59 million contract to provide satellite communications services and hardware for Chevron’s Wheatstone project, off the north west coast of Western Australia.
NewSat’s partner, BAE Systems, will provide offshore satellite communications to enable high-speed connectivity between Chevron’s offices in Perth, offshore platforms and the Wheatstone processing facility at Onslow.
The contract has an initial term of two years.
NewSat chief executive Adrian Ballintine said the deal was an ideal kick-starter for the 2013 financial year, and was the company’s largest single teleport contract to date.
“Our core teleport business continues to grow as we secure large oil, gas and mining contracts around the world,” Mr Ballintine said.
“With a promising teleport sales pipeline, NewSat is in great shape.
“Demand from our enterprise and government customers around the globe continues to grow, as they mandate high-grade communications everywhere and anytime.”
At 2:00PM, WST, NewSat shares were steady at 59 cents.
