BHP Group executive Edgar Basto has been elected president of the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of WA, which has also unveiled new branding.
Mr Basto, who is BHP’s WA Iron Ore Asset President, has been acting in the role since the departure last year of former CME president Jeroen Buren.
Rio Tinto’s Ivan Vella and AngloGold Ashanti’s Mike Erickson were endorsed as vice presidents at today’s annual meeting.
CME chief executive Paul Everingham used today’s event to unveil a new logo and branding which he said represented the CME’s three priorities.
In a statement, he outlined CEM’s priorities as follows:
Contribution: How our products and investment in growth and innovation enrich the world in which we live, and operate in ways which demonstrate our forward thinking, strong sense of social purpose and dedication to continuously innovate;
Capability: How we are building the skills not only of our current workforce, but also those across the Australian labour pool in ways which recognise our contribution through innovation, our determination to create workforce diversity, and our impact on lifting the capability of all Australians;
Competitiveness: How we strengthen and sustain our position at the cutting edge of performance as a safe, effective and productive industry, building sustainable returns, demonstrating our capability to lead on industry standards and showcasing our ingenuity.
Mr Everingham said the new branding also reflected moves to modernise and become one of Australia’s leading advocacy organisations.
He said CME’s old logo, which had a circular shape, had been jokingly referred to as looking like a wine glass stain.
