New beer bar to fill northern suburbs gap

Beerland Brewing is responding to a perceived shortage of craft beer in Perth’s northern suburbs, building a new venue to anchor a hospitality precinct at the redeveloped Westfield Whitford City.

The venue will be known as Whitfords Brewing Company and will be constructed under the same model as Beerland's existing Northbridge Brewing Company, with an onsite brewery to create up to 120,000 litres of beer per year.

Whitford City owner Scentre Group has begun work on its $450 million redevelopment of the centre, with the hospitality precinct to feature up to 10 new restaurants or bars and an eight-screen cinema complex.

Beerland head brewer Ken Arrowsmith will also oversee the brewing at Whitfords Brewing Company, which will feature the core Beerland range - Pale Ale, Wheat, Kolsch, IPA and Lager - as well as seasonal releases.

Spokesperson Ben Rasheed said the new venue was designed to bring well-made beer to the northern suburbs.

“We often have customers tell us that there are limited hospitality options in the northern suburbs, so when approached by Westfield with their plans to transform Whitford City we jumped right on board,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to being part of the local community and giving people something that they would otherwise have to travel for.”

An application for a liquor licence is being finalised, while Mr Rasheed urged punters to complete an online survey on the pub’s website to back its development.

“It’s also the only opportunity to become a foundation VIP member, which will carry some special benefits for those who share their thoughts with us through the online survey,” he said.
