Developers of the $250 million Century City Perth project today demonstrated their commitment to leading-edge, energy efficient building design by entering into an Australian Building Greenhouse Rating commitment agreement.
Energy Minister Francis Logan officiated at a ceremony to mark the commitment by 100 St George's Terrace project developers with the Sustainable Energy Development Office.
Under the agreement, the developers committed to designing, constructing and operating the building to achieve a 4.5-star Australian Building Greenhouse Rating.
"This is the first commitment agreement for a commercial office tower in Western Australia," Mr Logan said.
"The owner, Industry Superannuation Property Trust, and the co-developer, the Pivot Group, are to be congratulated for their foresight and commitment to a sustainable future.
"A 4.5-star rating is a very challenging target. Many organisations talk a lot about sustainability but these companies are acting on it and leading the way for others to follow."
The Australian Building Greenhouse Rating program is a world-first initiative for rating the greenhouse and energy performance of office buildings. The program, administered in WA by the State Government's Sustainable Energy Development Office, encourages building owners to reduce energy use and costs and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Current industry best practice is represented by three stars under the five-star rating system.
"Making commercial buildings more energy efficient will help the environment and can make significant energy cost savings of between 20 per cent and 40 per cent that will benefit both building owners and tenants," Mr Logan said.
