Godolphin Resources has intersected a broad patch of anomalous copper mineralisation at its Yeoval South prospect near Orange in NSW that the company says has underlined the project’s potential, given the diamond hole was sunk about 350m south of the operation’s existing mineral resource
The single, 490m-plus hole plunged in Godolphin's latest round of drilling forms part of a larger two-hole, 900m program aimed at testing the southern extensions of the mineral resource and vectoring in on deep-seeded copper.
A headline hit from the recent program of 276m at 0.12 per cent copper from 128m, with a 94m parcel running 0.18 per cent copper from 208m and a higher-grade 2m intercept grading 1.8 per cent copper from 264m boosted Godolphin’s view of its potential expansion. The same exploration came across anomalous gold, silver and molybdenum mineralisation.
Godolphin says the copper mineralisation running above the economical 1 per cent mark was found in a granodiorite host rock that appears to extend from its existing mineral resource at its Yeoval mineral resource.
According to the company, historical drilling in the zone was limited to shallow depths of about 90m.
Management says it is highly encouraged by the results as they underscore an extensive low-grade envelope with exceptional exploration potential to vector in on higher-grade copper outside of its present resource.
Godolphin Resources’ Managing Director, Jeneta Owens said: “These results are highly encouraging. To intersect such a wide interval of copper mineralisation and alteration, with some good grades of gold mineralisation a significant distance to the south of the existing Mineral Resource really enhances the potential size of the Yeoval porphyry system.”
The company has already outlined an inferred 12.8 million tonne resource going 0.38 per cent copper, 0.14 grams per tonne gold, 2.2 g/t silver and 120 parts per million molybdenum at its larger Yeoval project where the company has its sights on a high-tonnage operation.
Assay results from another diamond hole plunged about 2.5km north at Godolphin’s Cyclops prospect are still pending.
The bore at Cyclops struck a smorgasbord of chalcopyrite mineralisation associated with quartz-magnetite veins along shears in a granodiorite rock. A positive set of assays to complement the visual results could push the boundaries of the current mineral resource even further.
The larger Yeoval project covers 290 square kilometres that is speckled with more than 60 historic copper and gold workings along 20km in strike length.
A recent data review suggested additional drilling across the Yeoval and Cyclops prospects could bring forth a wealth of economic mineralisation – leading to the current campaigns.
