The Shire of Busselton has approved a $15 million resort and commercial hamlet development on Caves Road in Wilyabrup.
The Moses Rock Resort, located at lot 126 Caves Road, next to Saracen Estates, will include 13 strata-titled chalets, tennis courts, a private vineyard and tree plantations around a large dam.
The 40-hectare property features a commercial frontage dubbed Moses Rock Hamlet, which will include four outlets offering wine tasting, gourmet produce and arts and craft.
The owners, Moses Rock Developments Pty Ltd, have already sold 11 of the chalets and one wine tasting outlet to a prominent local winery.
Project manager and Australian Development Consultants director Greg Caird said the concept was quite unique in that it combined lifestyle with agriculture and tourism.
Large portions of the property are to be planted with sheoak, willow, oak and hazelnut trees alongside the resort and a 10-year-old vineyard.
“All of the single level chalets have three bedrooms and two bathrooms and are designed to be environmentally sustainable with rainwater tanks and grey-water irrigation,” he said.
Mr Caird said the group expected to sell the remaining two chalets and commercial outlets within weeks and had plans to build more outlets.
“We’re anticipating strong inquiry when we formally go to market so we’re looking at applying for more commercial units as part of a second-stage,” he revealed.
The group has also approached an adjoining property and airstrip owner, who has agreed to provide the 2.2 kilometre Boodgie Private Airstrip for the use of Moses Rock Resort guests.
However, this requires approval from the Shire of Busselton. If granted, the resort would become one of only a handful of properties in the region to have access to a private airstrip.
The most recent to gain approval to use an airstrip is the Karma Resort, proposed for a 19ha estate near Margaret River.
The property backs on to Busselton Airport, with developer John Spence planning to build 14 hangars.
Strata titles for the Moses Rock Resort are expected to be issued by September with the entire development forecast for completion in mid to late 2008.
