Strickland Metals has continued its hot-streak with more high-grade gold drill hits at the company’s newly discovered Wanamaker deposit just north of its Millrose gold resource, 85km north-east of Wiluna in WA. The latest results from its ongoing drill program at the project include a standout strike of 5m going 14.5 grams per tonne gold from 67m downhole.
The standout strike was approximately 200m south of the company’s recently reported 7m intersection going 22.2 g/t gold from 72m. The new hit will be one of many to feed into an updated mineral resource slated for release in the first quarter of next year. Strickland’s latest release of results includes another significant 5m intersection grading 6.6 g/t gold. Further assays are pending from holes to the north.
The explorer’s flow of high-grade hits builds on the initial Wanamaker discovery holes that returned 8m at 4 g/t from 104m and 7.9m at 7 g/t from 138.9m. The new deposit is shaping up as a high-grade discovery north of the historical Millrose resource of 346,000 ounces of gold that is the cornerstone of the company’s broader 603,000-ounce Yandal gold project.
Strickland’s unfolding footprint of shallow mineralisation now successfully links Millrose and Wanamaker for an overall strike length of 3.2km with the explorer hoping for further extensions to the north with additional drilling.
Strickland Metals Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Bray said: “The Wanamaker lode was discovered by Strickland during July and subsequently confirmed by further diamond drilling. Subsequent follow-up RC drilling intersected significant oxide mineralisation, which now links the Millrose Mineral Resource with the new Wanamaker lode.”
The ongoing program has thus far targeted shallow oxide gold at Wanamaker. However, the explorer has also completed seven diamond holes to test for plunge extensions to the previously intersected primary lode.
Strickland’s Yandal project is within the northern reaches of the region’s Archean-age Yandal greenstone belt, 70km east of Wiluna. The Archean eon began about 4000 million years ago and certain packages of rocks that were formed during the ancient period referred to as Archean greenstones, tend to host rich gold deposits. The green colour is derived from the presence of coloured minerals like chlorite that are induced by periods of metamorphosis or in basic terms, heating. Given their prolific golden endowment, greenstone belts are vigorously probed by many explorers like Strickland.
The company and ASX-listed Northern Star Resources are the only explorers situated in this portion of the Yandal belt. Northern Star’s juggernaut Jundee operation that exceeds 10 million ounces is just 30km to the west of Strickland’s ground.
The northern part of Strickland’s tenement package also covers part of WA’s Earaheedy basin where the explorer made its Iroquois zinc-lead discovery along strike of Rumble Resources’ significant Chinook zinc-lead discovery of 2021.
