Engineering and construction company Monadelphous has won a number of new contracts including work on major iron ore projects Gudai-Darri and Iron Bridge.
The contracts are worth about $215 million in total and include work on BHP’s Olympic Dam operations in South Australia and several projects in Chile.
Under one agreement, Monadelphous will provide construction and support services to Rio Tinto’s $2.6 billion Gudai-Darri (formerly Koodaideri) iron ore project until the end of the year.
Gudai-Darri is expected to begin production in early 2022.
Also in the Pilbara, Monadelphous has been tasked with delivering specialist heavy lifting and haulage service to Fortescue Metals Group’s Iron Bridge magnetite project under a subcontract with Welshpool-based NMT International (Australia).
Monadelphous will complete the work alongside Italian heavy lifting specialist Fagioli.
The Iron Bridge project is a joint venture between Fortescue subsidiary FMG Iron Bridge and Taiwan’s Formosa Steel.
It is now expected to cost between $US3.3 billion and $US3.5 billion, following a recent cost adjustment, with production scheduled for December 2022.
Monadelphous has also secured new maintenance work at BHP’s Olympic Dam copper mine in South Australia, scheduled to complete in December, as well as a two-year extension to an existing maintenance contract at Olympic Dam.
Under that agreement, Monadelphous is providing civil, structural, mechanical, building maintenance, and electrical services to BHP.
The contract extension includes the addition of underground rail maintenance.
Meanwhile, Monadelphous subsidiary Buildtek has won a number of contracts in Chile, including a three-year agreement with state-owned mining company Codelco.
Buildtek will operate and maintain water infrastructure at Codelco’s Chuquicamata underground mine in Calama, where the subsidiary has been providing services since 2018.
Codelco also awarded two new maintenance contracts to Buildtek for work at the miner’s El Teniente operations in Rancagua.
Further, Buildtek was awarded with a contract from BHP Mineral Escondida to build modularised pump stations and associated infrastructure at the Escondida copper mine in Coloso.
Shares in Mondelphous were trading 0.8 per cent higher at 12:22pm AEST on Tuesday to $9.94.
