Founding director of Perth-based global mining software developer Micromine, Graeme Tuder, has joined the ranks of some of Australia’s biggest names in exporting after being named an Australian Export Hero.
The annual awards have been run by the Export Council of Australia since 1997 with just more than 100 recipients during that time, including 16 from Western Australia.
Among the past WA recipients are Hancock Prospecting’s Gina Rinehart, former Fremantle Ports chief executive and recently installed WA governor Kerry Sanderson, former WA premier Sir Charles Court, and Craig Mostyn Group chief executive David Lock.
The six recipients of this year’s awards were notified this week, with the official national award ceremony scheduled to take place in Perth next February.
Mr Tuder established Micromine 28 years ago and remained managing director until he announced earlier this year that he was stepping into a new role with a focus on expanding the company’s international operations.
Privately owned Micromine has offices in 22 countries and its mining software is used by clients in more than 90 countries.
Mr Tuder said that, in establishing Micromine, he aimed to supply the most advanced solutions to the international mining community and represent the Australian sector.
This vision developed the business to its current state, with Micromine now providing applications covering the entire mining process, from exploration to production.
Micromine chairman and chairman emeritus of advocacy group Austmine, Alan Broome, said Mr Tuder pioneered the introduction of Western mining technology standards into emerging markets.
“Due mainly to Graeme’s efforts those markets have standardised on Micromine products and have contributed to Australia’s reputation as the leading supplier of mining technology and services globally,” Mr Broome said.
According to the ECA, to qualify for consideration recipients will have contributed to modern export enterprises and helped to further develop Australian export culture for their organisation and Australia in the international marketplace.
