Metal Hawk has snagged another solid nickel hit down dip of its discovery RC drillhole that the company says demonstrates continuity of high-grade mineralisation at its Berehaven nickel project 20 kilometres south-east of Kalgoorlie. The significant drill hit gave up a 3.4 metre section grading a solid 2.32 per cent nickel from 203.8m downhole just 50m down-dip of a previously reported 1m hit going 5.89 per cent nickel from 144m.
A total of four diamond drill holes aggregating 1,210m has been drilled at Commodore. All four drillholes will be surveyed with downhole electromagnetics to define follow-up drill targets.
Downhole electromagnetic surveying is also planned to assist with better refining of a previously modelled conductor prior to the drill testing of the target.
Only the first diamond drillhole results are back from the lab so far with assay results from the other holes at Berehaven eagerly awaited.
A 1m zone of heavily disseminated mineralisation from 247.5m downhole was intersected in the second drillhole at Berehaven, located a further 70m down-dip from the first hole.
The third drillhole was located approximately 70m south of the second drillhole and confirmed the presence of a significant east-west structure at depth that the company says suggests the fertile Commodore ultramafic unit may be offset by up to 200m to the south.
To the north of the second hole, the fourth drill hole intersected a zone of carbonate altered ultramafic rocks with trace sulphide mineralisation.
Recent RC drilling approximately 80m south of the Commodore discovery drillhole at Berehaven returned some positive results including a 3m zone grading 1.26 per cent nickel from 165m.
Assays are pending from a suite of other RC drillholes at Berehaven that include a thick zone of high magnesium oxide ultramafic rocks – a type of rock that is known to be a potential host for nickel mineralisation.
Aircore drilling is underway to explore the potential to the north and south of the ultramafic rocks at Commodore.
Metal Hawk Managing Director Will Belbin said: “The assay results from our very first diamond hole at Commodore demonstrate the continuity and high nickel tenor present in the system. We look forward to the results from the next phase of downhole EM at Commodore and regional exploration of the broader Berehaven project, with aircore drilling now underway, as we continue to explore and develop our understanding of this exciting and potentially extensive new nickel sulphide belt.”
With the latest diamond drill results intersecting more economical nickel grades down-dip from its cracking grade discovery hole at Berehaven, Metal Hawk looks to be developing a high grade story in this most lucrative of regions.
If it can pick up similar grades further along strike and add a bit more width it will be game on for the small capped explorer.
