Metal Hawk Limited has launched back into RC drilling at its Berehaven nickel project, 20 kilometres southeast of Kalgoorlie. Drilling has commenced at its Commodore South prospect located approximately 500m southwest of a discovery hole that intersected a one metre section going a whopping 5.89 per cent nickel last year. The company also hit 3.4m going 2.32 per cent nickel from 203.8m at the same prospect late last year.

News of drilling recommencing at Berehaven sparked a flurry of early on-market buying, driving Metal Hawk’s share price to a morning intraday peak of $0.340 in heavy trading from a previous closing price of $0.275.

An aircore drilling campaign at Commodore South intersected highly weathered ultramafic rocks late last year similar to those identified at Commodore. Assay results are still pending however the company believes the results should show a continuation of the mineralised ultramafic host rock. This zone is the initial target area of the RC drilling with two to three holes set to test the area at depth.

Aircore drilling in the western half of the underexplored Berehaven project has also resumed in parallel with RC drilling. The current aircore drilling program will consist of approximately 6,000m targeting stratigraphic horizons trending north-northwest through the Berehaven project area.

Additionally, a series of ground electromagnetic surveys are in the works to commence late January with several target areas identified across the Berehaven project. The geological logging from aircore drilling is also expected to assist in focusing and prioritising these surveys.

Metal Hawk Managing Director, Will Belbin said: “We are very pleased to kick-off this year’s exploration activities at Berehaven with RC, aircore and ground EM surveys commencing. We will push ahead with our systematic and aggressive nickel exploration as we further test our geological model and generate new targets for RC and diamond drilling. This is a very exciting time for Metal Hawk and we are focused on making more nickel sulphide discoveries in 2022.”

Nickel is not the only target metal in the company’s portfolio making a stir over recent months. Metal Hawk received results from 12 drillholes that were sunk at its Kanowna East project for a total of 1,325m targeting gold at the Little Lake and Western Tiger prospects.

Impressive gold grades intersected at Kanowna East include a 4m hit going 17.8g/t from 75m, 1m grading 2.9g/t from 66m and 2m grading 1.45g/t gold from 73m downhole. Other significant gold hits include 5m going 1.59g/t from 80m, another 5m hit going 1.95g/t gold from 70m and a further 5m intersection grading 1.09g/t gold from 69m downhole.

With the rods spinning again at Berehaven following several high-grade nickel hits, Metal Hawk seems to have confidence in the area now which may come as little surprise given its location in the most lucrative of regions prospective for nickel.
