Perth restaurateurs Sid Grewal and Murray Kimber are making curry in a hurry with their latest restaurant, Mela, opening on William Street in Northbridge just six months after the launch of the Cinnamon Club, their contemporary Indian noshery in Leederville.
The pair also own Chutney Mary’s in Subiaco and Nine Mary’s in the city.
Mr Grewel said Mela offered quality Indian fare at a good price, with sweets and various authentic dishes prepared the traditional way.
Mr Grewel said Mela had seating for 180 patrons and would be managed by his son, Sacha Grewel.
If the success of their three existing restaurants is anything to go by then Mr Grewel and Mr Kimber may be onto something with Mela.
Mr Grewel said all the restaurants were doing very well, particularly Nine Mary’s, a favourite with the CBD lunch crowd and popular on weekends.
“I’ve been in the restaurant business 25 years and I think the reason why they work is we offer the whole package. More importantly, we have experienced staff,” he said.
Messrs Grewel and Kimber have no plans to open any more restaurants just yet, but will instead fine-tune their existing businesses before possibly injecting some spice into Fremantle and Applecross.
