Business News senior journalist Matt Mckenzie has won the prestigious AMEC media award for excellence in journalism covering the Australian mineral exploration and mining industry.

McKenzie’s story “A combined 2,234 days on the waiting list’, highlighted the challenges lengthy delays in securing development approvals cause.

Mckenzie received the award at the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies gala dinner at Optus Stadium last night in front of almost 500 people from across the sector. 

Other winners included Kevin Frost and Morgan Frejabise in the prospector category, Oz Minerals and Global Maintenance Upper Spencer Gulf (GMUSG) in the community contribution category, Bellevue Gold in the diversity and inclusion category, Fortescue Metals in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander empowerment category and EQ Resources in the environment category.

Mckenzie joined Business News in 2014 and reports on major projects, energy, and the economy. In 2018, he won a WA Media Award for business reporting.
