ASX-listed base metals explorer, Legend Mining, has encountered more significant nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation at its exciting Mawson prospect at its Rockford project in WA’s revered Fraser Range district that looks to be shaping up as a possible extension to the original discovery.
The Perth-based company drilled a diamond hole at Mawson to test a strong off-hole conductor identified from a down-hole electromagnetic survey of an earlier RC hole. It intersected a total of 24.65m of nickel-copper sulphides across two intervals – 9.3m from 132.2m down-hole and 15.35m from 219.1m down-hole.
Legend Mining Managing Director, Mark Wilson said: “The observations from this step-out hole are an exciting development in the Mawson story. Geologically, we have now intersected significant mineralisation several hundred metres to the east-north-east of our previous discovery and our geophysical advice is that we probably have not hit the best part of this conductor.”
“Our proven systematic methodology of DHTEM (downhole electromagnetic survey) and structural logging of this hole on completion will provide the data for the design of the next diamond holes in this immediate vicinity.”
The company’s Rockford project spans about 3,000sqkm of prime intrusive-related massive nickel-sulphide hunting ground in the Fraser Range.
Legend discovered massive nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation at Mawson late last year from another diamond hole, also drilled to test an electromagnetic conductor.
Mawson is located about 120km north-east of IGO’s extraordinary Nova nickel-copper-cobalt mine and 100km south of AngloGold Ashanti’s 70 per cent-owned Tropicana gold mine.
Legend will now assess the latest downhole electromagnetic survey and drill data to come up with the next Mawson targets.
A major diamond, RC and aircore drill campaign is also continuing at Mawson and regionally at Rockford.
The company, which is ploughing about $11 million into exploration this year, has about $25 million in the bank, a market cap of about $340 million and the regional experience of the Creasy Group and IGO among its top shareholders.
Legend’s exploration success at Mawson is already remarkable and continues unabated. The latest 24.65m of mineralisation may well see this rapidly advancing deposit take on an entirely different complexion as Legend seeks to unearth the next major nickel-copper find in the Fraser Range that can claim bragging rights with the Nova discovery.
