Askari Metals has recorded significant copper and gold results from a maiden drill program at its Horry project in the Kimberley region of WA and identified numerous follow up targets for a second phase of exploration.
The company completed 29 RC drill holes for 2096m that confirmed multiple mineralised deposits at its Horry Horse gold target and Mt Dockrell copper prospect.
Highlights from drilling at Horry Horse showed a 4m section going 1.8 per cent copper from 24m including a 2m hit at an impressive 3.6 per cent copper and 0.2 grams per tonne gold from 26m. A second hole recorded a 3m intercept grading 1 per cent copper from 18m including 1m at 2.8 per cent copper and 0.2 g/t gold from 19m.
Askari says mineralisation at Horry Horse extends over 400m and has previously recorded rock chip samples grading 8.5 per cent and 3.77 per cent copper. The recent drill campaign completed 23 RC holes for 1710m at the site.
Results from the company’s Western Lead prospect include 2m at 5.5 g/t gold from 10m whilst a second hole recorded a 2m hit going 1.3 g/t gold from 12m.
Askari Metals Vice President of Exploration and Geology, Johan Lambrechts said: “The campaign resulted in the identification of new and additional sub-parallel lodes at both the Horry Horse and Mt Dockrell prospects and opens the opportunity for further drilling campaigns testing these units.”
In August the company uncovered up to 31.9 g/t gold in stream sediment from a loaming campaign at its Horry project. The gold loaming program included panning creeks and tributaries, metal detecting and collecting rock chip samples.
Loaming is an explorative technique whereby the prospector follows up the best results until the source of gold in the waterways is identified.
As part of the process, stream sediment sampling returned results of up to 31.9 g/t gold whilst rock chip sampling revealed grades of up to 3.82 g/t gold and 4.3 per cent copper.
Thirty-six stream sediment samples were collected throughout the tenement, with four samples returning more than 9 g/t gold and a further six samples returning grades between 1 g/t and 6g/t. Visible gold was observed during panning, with a total of 31 gold nuggets collected across 20 sites.
Only 50km to the north-east of Horry is ASX-listed Cazaly Resources’ Halls Creek copper project that comes packed with some high-grade and broad copper intercepts.
Previous exploration at the nearby project returned results of 57m going 5.04 per cent copper in one hole and 117m running 0.32 per cent copper in a different hole.
The Horry project sits along the Halls Creek Mobile Belt that is prospective for a range of commodities including copper, silver, nickel, lead, zinc and diamonds.
