Perth, Australia – 11 July 2023. Innovators in the industry, Mader Group recently completed their first ‘Tools for Life’ Student Program at their maintenance facility in Perth.
Local high school students from years 10 to 12 were invited to explore the opportunities available to them within the mining industry with sessions led by a team of expert Mader personnel and guest speakers relevant to the industry.
With Western Australia’s tight labour market showing no signs of alleviation, companies are focused on helping youth understand the varying career options available to them, within the mining industry and beyond.
While obtaining an apprenticeship is highly competitive, Mader is giving students a leg up in the industry, helping them to gain hands-on experience and show them what a career in mining could look like.
Charlotte Wagner, Mader’s HR & Training General Manager, emphasised the incredible opportunity presented to interested high school students through the ‘Tools for Life’ program.
"At Mader, we believe in showcasing the realities of being a tradesperson and offering students an exclusive chance to gain insight into the rewarding aspects of a career in the mining sector," said Charlotte.
“Despite the endless array of opportunities in Western Australia, a part of our program is about showing students that with a trade certificate in hand, their skills could take them around globe, working and travelling internationally.”
Day one of the program kicked off in Mader’s Perth workshop, where students were given a tour of the facility, and learned about the various equipment serviced in their new state-of-the-art maintenance facility, opened late last year.
Housing a team of experts, the Mader Maintenance Centre specialises in mining and earthmoving equipment repairs, rebuilds and general maintenance, including full engine and component rebuilds. The students even got their hands dirty on a CAT 3196 core engine.
On the second day, students had the opportunity to hear from Brayden Ainsworth, a former West Coast Eagles player turned Youth Mental Health Officer from Happiness Co, who delivered a captivating and inspiring discussion about the significance of maintaining mental well-being and staying true to core values.
Closing off the program with an official certificate of completion, the students walked away with an abundance of valuable insights from industry experts, equipped with confidence in their career choices and well-prepared to pursue their own apprenticeships or jobs in the mining sector.
The Intro to Mining sessions are part of Mader’s ‘Tools for Life’ program, a wide-ranging, global program aimed at equipping individuals and communities with the tools they need to succeed in life.
