Australia's second largest private health insurer MBF has marked the opening of its first Western Australian office with a contribution to the McComb Foundation's research into tissue regeneration.
McComb Foundation director and 2005 Australian of the Year, Clinical Professor Fiona Wood, welcomed MBF's $10,000 contribution to the foundation to mark the opening of the health insurer's new St Georges Terrace centre.
"The focus of the McComb Foundation is translational research with science making a difference to people by improving outcomes from injury," Prof Wood said.
"The MBF funding allows work to continue to bring basic science to the bedside. The solutions to clinical problems faced daily by our patients can be investigated."
MBF managing director and chief executive officer, Mr Eric Dodd, said that MBF was delighted to make a contribution to the foundation's work in tissue regeneration with the aim of achieving scar free healing for burns and other tissue injuries and disease.
"Like so many other Australians, MBF people were inspired by the lifesaving work of the Royal Perth Hospital's burns unit and Fiona Wood's leadership following the Bali bombings in 2002," Mr Dodd said.
"Professor Wood's extraordinary work in the development of spray on skin cells to treat burns victims represents a huge advance in this vital area of healthcare. We trust that MBF's contribution will be of some value to the McComb Foundation's research into broader areas of wound healing.
"Our contribution to the foundation is an indication of MBF's commitment to the communities where we operate."
MBF has a varied community sponsorship program in various States and is already known in the west as a major sponsor of Rugby WA's Western Force and its campaign as the newest entrant in the Super 14 competition.
