RACY newspaper Sports Truth WA has closed its doors, after operating for less than a football season.
Sports Truth WA is owned by Westcoast Media Pty Ltd and the paper’s general manager, Shorelle Hayman, announced the decision on September 11. Just 17 editions were released.
“It is with much regret that, due to unforeseen circumstances, the newspaper, Sports Truth WA, has now ceased publication,” said Mrs Hayman, who was not available for further comment.
“We would like to thank all of our supporters for the time and effort they have put in over the past few months and the insight they have provided.
“All other aspects of Westcoast Media will continue as normal.”
It is understood Kalamunda-based Westcoast Media has bought the rights to Melbourne Sports Truth, which has been running since 1890.
According to Sports Truth WA former editor Chris Thomas, the lack in advertising revenue made it impossible for the publication to survive.
“It was simply a matter of the paper not being able to attract enough advertising, which for small publications is crucial for their survival,” Mr Thomas said.
Sports Truth WA’s sports content covered stories across all major sport sectors, though the tabloid-styled publication was littered with adult advertising.
According to Mr Thomas, Sports Truth WA sought to implement less of this ‘adult-type’ advertising than its Melbourne counterpart in a bid to create a more sports-focused publication.
