THE Australian Islamic College has retained the number one spot as the State’s largest independent school, with total enrolments of 1850 primary and secondary school students, according to the 2002 WA Business News Book of Company Lists.
John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School, with total enrolments of 1527 students, was displaced from second position to third by new entry St Stephens School, which has total enrolments of 1600 primary and secondary students.
The biggest move up the list was from St Mark’s Anglican School, which moved from 13th position last year to sixth, reflecting an increase in total enrolments from 1090 to 1265 students. In the main, this was due to an increase of 170 secondary school students.
Kingsway Christian School’s position on the list also jumped significantly, from 20th last year with enrolments of 983 students to 14th on this year’s list with 1109 enrolments. Secondary school enrolments at Kingsway rose from 513 last year to 627 for 2002.
The biggest moves down the list were experienced by Methodist Ladies College, which fell from 14th to 19th, and Christ Church Grammar School, which moved from 4th to 7th. Enrolments for Methodist Ladies College fell from 1045 to 990, while Christ Church Grammar’s slide down the list was due to other schools increasing the total number of students enrolled.
Of all the schools in this year’s top 20, 12 recorded increases in total enrolments, four experienced a decrease in enrolments, three recorded no change and one was a new entry to the 2002 list.
Of the schools that recorded increases in total enrolments, six registered increases in primary school enrolments, five experienced a rise in secondary school enrolments and one school had the same increase in both primary and secondary student enrolments.
