Prime tourism development opportunity on offer in Shark Bay.
Prime land is now on offer to developers in the Shark Bay tourism region, one of Western Australia's most popular tourist areas.
Tourism Minister Sheila McHale has announced Expressions of Interest for a 6.1ha site at Denham for experienced developers and tourism operators to construct high-quality accommodation facilities.
"This is an outstanding opportunity to secure prime land with prominent views of
Dirk Hartog Island and Shark Bay," Ms McHale said.
"There is great scope here for the right developer to use this opportunity to attract more visitors to the popular Coral Coast region."
The Minister said the site was a result of the State Government's Landbank initiative, designed to streamline approval processes in order to release 'investor ready' development sites in WA's key tourism destinations.
"Shark Bay is one of Australia's most exciting tourism destinations," she said.
"It is the gateway to the magnificent Shark Bay World Heritage area, an area visited by more than 107,000 people annually."
Ms McHale said the EOI period ran until October 25, after which a shortlist of developers would be invited to submit more detailed proposals.
An assessment committee including Tourism WA, Department for Planning and Infrastructure, Shire of Shark Bay and the Gascoyne Development Commission would provide recommendations to the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure.
The Landbank initiative aims to release 20 tourism sites by 2010. The developments range from luxury resorts to caravan parks and wilderness lodges, catering for the accommodation needs of a range of tourists.
