Junior explorer Kula Gold has locked onto a new gold prospect known as “G-Star” at its Marvel Loch-Airfield project in the prolific Southern Cross goldfields in Western Australia. First pass auger drilling has revealed a gold anomaly striking over 2.2 kilometres which remains open to the northwest. Follow up sampling was completed during October with samples awaiting assay.
In its hunt for significant new Archean lode-style gold deposits, Kula identified a historic low level gold anomaly generated by former major regional operator, Sons of Gwalia, some 30 years ago in what was thought to be barren granite.
The company’s desktop and field investigations show the Sons of Gwalia anomaly may be linked with “previously unknown” greenstones with good potential host rocks such as banded-iron formations – or “BIF’s” and mafic volcanics.
Kula’s first foray into the under explored terrane started earlier this year with 51km of auger drilling lines unearthing Archean greenstones within the Ghooli Dome where none were previously mapped. Follow up field investigations verified prospective amphibolite and BIF rocks over 25km of strike length.
Buoyed by its early success, Kula says a further 217 infill auger geochemistry samples were collected during October to refine the 2.2km long gold geochemical trend. Assays are pending.
Kula’s tenure is only 3.5km north of the 600,000 ounce Nevoria gold mine and 9km east of the 3 million ounce Marvel Loch gold mine within the prospective Ghooli Dome. The greenstone belts of the Southern Cross region have produced a whopping 15 million ounces of gold to-date at an average grade of 3 to 5 grams per tonne of the precious yellow metal.
Kula says it remains focussed on exploring around operating gold mines where mineralisation has been geologically proven.
With its technical breakthrough in identifying the underexplored Archean greenstone belt at Marvel Loch, the company has now amassed a generous 690 square kilometres of tenure covering the newly mapped greenstone sequence in the Ghooli Dome.
Kula also says reverse circulation drilling is due to commence at the Boomerang kaolin prospect. The company previously said drilling is planned to test the volume of kaolin and generate material for metallurgical test work.
Interestingly, Kula has also sniffed out traces of gold below the kaolin clay zone that coincide with a known geophysical target and anomalous soil geochemistry. The company said planned resource drilling into the kaolin clay zone will be extended a further 10 to 15 metres to test for gold mineralisation.
Since acquiring the tenement just over a year ago, Kula has already etched out three new promising gold prospects at Airfield, Crayfish and now G-Star.
