King to chair ERA

Western Australian Governor Kerry Sanderson has appointed professor Stephen King as alternate chairman of the governing body of the Economic Regulation Authority on a part-time basis.

Professor King, who has been a board member since 2010, will join Steve Edwell on the ERA’s governing body.

Mr Edwell has been on the ERA’s board since 2006.

“Professor King’s appointment as alternate chairman, rather than as chairman, reflects the part-time nature of the appointment,” the ERA said in a statement.

Professor King is a professor of economics and former dean at Monash University in Melbourne.

He is also a lay member of the High Court of New Zealand, and is a part-time member of the National Competition Council.

The appointment follows the departure of former full-time chairman Lyndon Rowe, who left to take up the role of chairman at Synergy in August.

Professor King will hold the position until November next year.
