ASX-listed Kalgoorlie Gold Mining has highlighted a gold-mineralised corridor with a strike length of nearly 7km following reconnaissance field work across its Zelica project in Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields region.
The company has recorded high-grade gold mineralisation in near-surface quartz veining, including results of up to 39.6 grams per tonne gold and 6.44g/t from rock-chip samples at its West Nest prospect.
Samples were collected from outcrops, shallow excavations and historic reverse-circulation (RC) drill-chip material along a corridor extending through the entire north-south length of the tenement.
Results from historical drilling at the company’s Murphy Well prospect, nearly halfway along the corridor, also returned solid shallow results including a 4m hit at 3.08g/t gold from 15m and an 8m section grading 1.4g/t from just 9m.
At its Eucalyptus Bore prospect to the north of the tenement, RC drilling from 2006 showed results of 1m at 3.02g/t gold from 16m and 1m reading 2.54g/t from 15m. Historic drill spoil grab samples in the northern area returned values of 1.08g/t and 0.29 g/t.
KalGold believes the corridor extends off its tenements to north and starts at about 600m south of the historic Zenica gold mine that holds a JORC resource of 570,000 tonnes at 1.63g/t gold for more than 30,000 ounces.
Kalgoorlie Gold Mining managing director Matt Painter said: “KalGold’s outstanding portfolio of projects continues to impress. With first-pass surface sampling producing assays in excess of a troy ounce per tonne, it is clear the Zelica Project demands more attention. KalGold is presently defining future work programs throughout the project area to follow up on these very encouraging results.”
The company’s Zelica project sits about 180km north/north-east from Kalgoorlie and 70km east of Kookynie. KalGold says it is easily accessible from every direction on high-quality unsealed roads.
The operation covers part of the Celia Tectonic Zone, one of the major crustal structures of the Eastern Goldfields province, and about 115km north-west of KalGold’s Kirgella Gift and Providence targets at its Pinjin project.
Pinjin lies south of Hawthorn Resources’ Anglo Saxon gold mine and to the north of Ramelius Resources’ Rebecca gold project. Fast-tracked assays from maiden drilling at Kirgella Gift have turned over 38 metres at 1.86 grams per tonne gold from 73m, including a 6m section at 2.85g/t and 11m at 2.66g/t. A second drillhole intersected 35m at 1.71g/t gold from a shallower 43m, including a 12m hit at 2.11g/t.
While only gold assays have been returned to date from Zelica, follow-up work programs are expected to include auger geochemical sampling and field mapping to refine targets.
