John Holland has been appointed by the state government to carry out $120 million in road and rail works to upgrade access to Esperance Port.
The Port Access Corridor project involves realigning 1.8 kilometres of Harbor Road, and relocating the railway to enter the port on the northern side of the road.
Transport Minister Troy Buswell said final negotiations with John Holland were continuing, and works would start in May.
“When completed in December 2013, the new port access corridor will support increased activity at the Esperance Port, generated by regional growth in mining and agriculture, while catering for the general development of the town and region,” Mr Buswell said.
“With an increasing amount of traffic on the road in the Great Southern, this project will deliver major transport efficiencies and improved road safety.”
The project is expected to generate up to 100 jobs.
