Jenni Hill to Supreme Court

Attorney General John Quigley has announced Clifford Chance partner Jenni Hill has been appointed to the Supreme Court of Western Australia and Justice John Vaughan to the Court of Appeal.

The announcement comes after Justice Janine Pritchard was appointed president of the State Administrative Tribunal last week.

Mr Quigley said Ms Hill had an extensive legal career after being admitted to practice in Western Australia in 1994 and subsequently joining Bennett and Co.

“In that role, Ms Hill acted in a wide range of litigation and advisory matters for both listed companies and individual clients,” Mr Quigley said.

“Between 2005 and April 2015, Ms Hill was a partner at Norton Rose Fulbright, after which she joined Clifford Chance where she is currently a partner in the litigation and dispute resolution team.

“Ms Hill specialises in representing parties in the energy and resources sectors and advising on corporate and shareholder disputes and investigations.”

Ms Hill is also the Western Australian Law Society representative on the Equal Opportunity Committee of the Law Council of Australia and is a member of CEOS for Gender Equality of WA, the Courts Committee and the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Committee of the Law Society of WA and the Joint Women Lawyers/Law Society Committee.

Mr Quigley said Justice Vaughan was appointed senior counsel in 2003 and he practised as a barrister and a solicitor for several years before joining the Independent Bar in 2007.

 “In April 2018, Justice Vaughan was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and experience to the bench,” he said.

“I have been advised by the Chief Justice that, together with his duties on the Court of Appeal, Justice Vaughan will continue at the helm of the Supreme Court’s Corporations List, which has significantly contributed to the effective and efficient disposition of that important part of the Court’s jurisdiction.”

Mr Quigley congratulated Ms Hill and Justice Vaughan on their appointments.
