Businesses Australia wide stand to benefit from an international business club established ahead of the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
At least that’s why Jackie Jarvis, director of Margaret River winery Jarvis Estate, joined up.
The free, membership-based Business Club Australia: Melbourne 2006 is a Federal Government initiative to boost two-way trade between Australia and other Commonwealth countries in the lead up to the games in March.
It will use the international profile and excitement created by the Melbourne Commonwealth Games to generate real business partnerships.
The club builds on the success of previous Business Club Australia programs designed and led by Austrade during the 2000 Olympic Games and Rugby World Cup 2003.
Ms Jarvis is hoping her business club membership will grab the attention of international wine buyers.
“The club does have a business matching service, which helps introduce business people, and there may well be someone out there looking to add a Margaret River winery to their portfolio and see our profile,” Ms Jarvis said.
“Any kind of promotion is good.”
During the Rugby World Cup in 2003, a group of Margaret River wineries, including Jarvis Estate, held a wine tasting for a Harvey Nichols wine buyer.
And with export markets recently established in Canada and Singapore, Ms Jarvis hopes the business club will expose Jarvis Estate to new markets.
Business Club Australia: Melbourne 2006 facilitates international business through its business matching services, a website, program of networking events and one-on-one meetings.
Business Club Australia claims to have facilitated more than $A1.5 billion in business deals, and a further $A675 million is expected (at August 2005). The Rugby Business Club Australia program helped 192 Australian com-panies achieve export earnings with significant negotiations in progress.
Business Club Australia has attracted more than 20,000 business people from around the globe.
